For the weekend of stitching I have decided to put aside my HAED, and stitch on something that has been previously abandoned. This way I wouldn't feel extremely guilty stitching all weekend. So I have picked up the following:
prior to 21/7/12 |
And after a day and a bit of backstitching (which I hate) I was very proud of myself. I have finished it!
Done! |
And here is a closeup:

It was an Anchor kit, designed by Judy Rossouw, and stitched on 14bpi white Aida fabric. According to the kit it is 18 x 18cm (7 x 7"), though I haven't checked.
So after this uplifting feeling of completion you ask me - what have you stitched then? Anything else closer to a finish? And the answer is no. I have done something despicable - I have started something new. Having 13 projects in the abyss I chose to start something new. In my defence I have just completed a project ... and went to get the rabbit out of the box to work on but found this one all bright colours and summery first:
22/7/12 |
It is 'Kiongozi - Dance Leader'. A Fleur de Lis kit, with Anchor stranded cotton. The original art work by the Kenya artist Gakonga. The fabric is 18bpi cream Aida, and it is to be 27 x 8cm (10.5 x 3"). It will go very well with 'Watembea Nyumbani (Walking Home)' I have completed last year, based on the art work of the same artist.

Congrats on your Finish! Hippos are one of my favorite animals!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Cats are my favourites I think. I saw one by Margaret Sherry on her website ... the one that says that he is not fat, he is fluffy. Probably my next make-me-feel-better cross stitch. There aren't that many hippos that are cute around I think (cross stitch wise). Good luck on the Jelina SAL by the way. Can't wait to see them coming along (one of the ones I am considering to get in the future).
DeleteWell done on a finish and wow that is a really stunning blue.
ReplyDeleteThank you. The colours were what made me finally decide to start it. There are oranges and pinks, all bright and vibrant. The pre-sorted card of them looks amazing. Plus it will be a good stock up I feel ... there is plenty of blue leftover from the 1st two shades for future projects. Always a bonus.
DeleteGreat finish.

Thanks. Just checked out your blog. Love the tea related cross stitch you are doing. Bothy threads I think. Was talking myself into buying it myself for the past month or so. If I get a new/extra job in September I might treat myself. Good luck with your stitching!
DeleteGreat finish. It's so cute.
ReplyDeleteLovely blue for your new project. Can't wait to see more progress.
Thank you. I am normally more of a brown/natural colours person, for clothes and paintings; but I do like vibrant stitching. There might be some time until I can do more stitching on the project, as I want to take full advantage of mum being away to get her year's worth of presents sorted, and continue on the HAED (so that I might stand a chance of having it done for Christmas 2013). But who knows, I never was good for a longterm set plans for my stitching.
DeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog, and I love it! Your stitching is beautiful! If you had time, I would love it if you could check out my blog.

Thank you, and good luck on your stitching!
DeleteCute! =) congrats on your finish!! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. I was sorry to hear that the exchange still have some missing in action (a little ashamed about posting mine later than I should have done). I hope it reaches safely (I do have proof of postage somewhere amongst the packed boxes - I think), but it would be such a pity if the stitching was to be lost. And I will post the picture of the amazing gift I have received soon.
DeleteYour hippo finish is really cute!! And I don't think starting a new project is "despicable." I would have done the same thing myself!!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Although I now feel a little worser after beginning to grid another piece - though it is a present and already classed as a wip. I desperately need another finish to restore my faith in completion before beginning. Maybe I will dedicate a day to a card.
Deletewow, its beautiful can't believe you actually finished it! Love it... I want one actually it is adorable xx
ReplyDeleteMe neither. It was lying in a draw for about a year!!! This is how bad I got. Need to dedicate more time to completing things. 14 works in progress is way beyond a reasonable Lija - how can I keep a firm grip on all my hobbies, if they will start spiralling out like this. Was attempting to sort the large box of stamps ... and came to a conclusion that I am doing it wrong. I need to take them all out and sort into about 4 categories first ... and only then start sorting into type otherwise I will end up with millions of bags still in an unsorted manner.
