Smalls #4 - a lovely The Snowflower Diaries finish, my new orchids & TUSAL #5

Hello all,

a slightly belated post on my latest finish for the smalls sal. It is 'Cherry Tree' by TheSnowflower Diaries. If you remember it was gifted to me as a kit for Christmas by my sister.

I am not sure if many of you are aware but I was struggling, through my own fault, with this design. The green grass on the bottom left I stitched in columns of six (as I was stitching from centre outwards and did not want to make a counting error). Well, as you know this hand dyed stuff tends to be slightly variated. So I had myself columns of six highly visible. I was then debating of whether to leave it that way or unpick it. In the end I unpicked half of the stitching (as the rest was not too bad) and tried matching the shade of floss to the remaining block (to avoid the dreaded line). I think it has worked.

Here are some close-ups of my new orchid. I bought it for £6 (half price!) in a ceramic pot. Pretty good deal as a pot normally costs £2 at least.

And my Tusal update. Not a lot as my last update was soooo late.

Wipocalypse - post #11 ... I do have a finish and a giveaway I have to mention

Dear all,

I am going to post even if it kills me! You won't be able to imagine how long it took me to compose it. First of all apologies for the weird bright colour of my photos ... the projects are not as bright in real life.

First of all is the Xmas card kit by Margaret Sherry. Free kit from the Cross Stitch Crazy December 2012/issue 171.

I have now completed this one (some indication at my attempts to compose this post).

Anyhow next up is my progress on the 'Field of Poppies' by Yiota's XStitch. Not sure if I mentioned about my failure to fully grid it. I was gridding away ... and ran out of the red stuff. Since the bottom was done I decided to start stitching and then transfer the gridding to top.

There is still tonnes to go.

Next up is my SAL piece, QS Literate Dragon. I haven't managed to complete it, but stitched enough for three extra charts. My choices were: QS Heather, SK Trick or Treat, and QS Theatre of the Absurd.

I have put it aside for now ... Since it was driving me crazy (especially page 1, I can't seem to find some shades of green). I might go on to bottom left page when I next pick it up, or finish off the bottom right ... it has a few more stitches to get me stuck in.

And my finish is the tiny Fizzy Moon, it will be an addition to mum's present:

Well I haven't really managed to work on any wips as such. But I have a few finishes and a start:

Completed Biscornu #229 in DMC 123 on some green iridescent sparkle aida (14 count). Fabric was bought from Heritage Crafts and chart from the Floss Box ... check out the sidebar for those.

This is 'Haunted House' by the Snowflower Diaries. It was completed on Zweigart 28 count Pastel Linen Amsterdam Blue. In the following colours: DMC: 310 and blanc, and Anchor: 13 and 302

Furthermore 'Truly, Madly, Deeply' is now a finish thanks to my lovely mum. Check out the earlier post HERE. By the same designer. Both were done for the 2013 SAL. Check out the giveaway Maja (of the Snowflower Diaries) is having below.
